Trek the Great Wall of China
21st - 31st October 2015
Join us on one of the world’s most iconic trekking challenges, walking both restored and quiet, unrestored sections of the Great Wall of China.
You’ll be rewarded for the tough ascents and descents by stunning panoramic views of the Chinese countryside, as well as the knowledge you're helping us save lives in Cornwall.
This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime challenge.
The Challenge
The Great Wall of China has been included in many ‘Wonders of the World’ lists and while you can’t actually see it from space (a myth originating from the 19th century – before space travel!) it stretches to over 13,000 miles in length and is undoubtedly an incredible feat of human achievement.
Unlike many Great Wall treks, our challenging expedition takes in stretches of both well-restored wall and unrestored sections in quieter locations, giving a balanced experience of history and culture.
You’ll be truly immersed in the Chinese culture, eating local cuisine and staying in a combination of mountain hotels and even a local homestay.
The trekking will be tough with lots of steps to climb as the wall follows the local topography.
You’ll be rewarded, though, with stunning panormaic views of the rocky ridges, terraced farmland, dense forest and open rolling hills of the tranquil Chinese countryside.
What will the trek be like?
Remember: this is a trek not a race; the challenge is designed to be achievable by anyone, provided you prepare well for the expedition.
This will be a spectacular, cultural and memorable experience, as well as a true challenge. There are tough, long ascents and descents as the Wall follows the topography of the land. In places the Wall is well-maintained and paved, whereas in others it has all but disappeared and you will be trekking rough paths.
You will be walking for between 3 and 8 hours per day so you will need a good base level of fitness.
There is no upper age limit for this trip (you’re as young as you feel!) but all participants must be at least 18 at the date of departure (21st October 2015).
Your fundraising covers your trip costs, so to register for this amazing challenge costs just £395. We ask you to fundraise at least £2,895 for Cornwall Air Ambulance, part of which pays your trip costs. If you've never done that level of fundraising before, don't worry - we can give you loads of help with your fundraising and you'll be suprised just how quickly the money can come in. Come along to the information evening or get in touch to find out more (see below)
