Machu Picchu 2014

Join us 1st - 10th November 2014 as we follow in the footsteps of the Incas to the lost city of Machu Picchu.

Embedded within a dramatic landscape at the meeting point between the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon Basin, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu is one of the 7 New Wonders of the World, and the most significant legacy of the Inca civilization. The city was discovered in 1911, and is well-known as one of the most spiritual archaelogical sites on the planet.

The Challenge

The Cornwall Air Ambulance Machu Picchu Challenge takes place 1st - 10th November 2014.

Our trek takes us on a less-trodden route through the stunning Lares Valley with a breathtakingly picturesque mix of spectacular mountain scenery, glacial lakes, waterfalls, high plains, and hot springs. This trail will take you off the beaten track through Andean villages where hardy locals - and one or two llamas - live much as they have for centuries, affording you a rare insight into their lives as you camp among their communities.

You'll have time to explore Cusco, the historic capital of the Incan empire, as well as the hot springs at Lares, and the rarely-visited ruins of Pumamarca.

On the final day of the trek, you join the famous Inca Trail and emerge through the Sun Gate to get your first glimpse of the ancient remains of the lost city of Machu Picchu. After descending for a hot shower and night in a hotel and a look around the extensive artisan market of Machu Picchu Pueblo, you'll return the next day for a guided tour of these stunning ancient ruins.

Why Trek For Cornwall Air Ambulance?

By taking part in this challenge not only will you get to experience one of the most spectacular treks in the world, but you will also have a great motivation behind you. You'll be helping us save lives.

What's more, we look after our supporters! We're always happy to have a chat through your plans and offer advice and support over a cup of tea! We can supply fundraising materials, arrange supermarket collections, and you can even use our community rooms to hold events.

For our Kilimanjaro 2013 team we arranged training walks, social evenings and a group Facebook page. All this meant friendships and a genuine team spirit had formed long before the trek itself; a spirit that ultimately helped the entire team throughout the challenge. We'll be doing the same for our Machu Picchu team!

Our challenge events are fantastic! But don't just take our word for it; read the accounts of some of our Team Kili trekkers to hear about their experience in their own words.

Is It For Me?

This expedition truly will be an incredible experience of a lifetime. You'll wonder at incredible views of the high Andes, stunning glacial lakes and dramatic river valleys, and meet the Peruvian people who inhabit this wild and beautiful place.

As spectacular, cultural and memorable this experience will be, however, it's also a true challenge of a lifetime, with cold weather, and tough ascents to high altitudes.

The challenge is designed to be tough yet achievable by anyone, provided you train before the expedition. We can provide you with a suggested training plan on request.

What Does It Cost?
