Chris Pomfret

Team Role: 

Chris has over 30 years of experience in the food industry having worked for Unilever, primarily in frozen foods and ice cream, since 1971 in the UK, Trinidad, Brazil, France and the Netherlands. Over this period, Chris held a number of positions largely in marketing and general management with global, regional and national responsibilities. He left Unilever in 2004 in order to focus on a number of other interests and runs his own Marketing and Sustainability consultancy firm.

Chris was Chairman of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, appointed in early 2011, and an Advisory Board member of the European Centre for Environment and Human Health (part of the University of Exeter Medical School).

He was appointed a Trustee of CAAT in late 2012.

He is married with three children and lives near Port Isaac, sails, plays golf badly, loves cooking, food and gardening.

Other previous roles include:-

From 1999 to 2003 he was a Council member of the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers.

In the early 2000s, trustee of CHASE, Children’s Hospice South East. Resigned when he relocated to Cornwall.

For over ten years, a member of the Corporate Advisory Board and Senior Associate of the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership resigning in 2012 due to other commitments.

He was a member of the Government Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and part of the Expert panel advising the previous Government’s Cabinet Strategy Uniit on long-term Food Policy which included major elements of the sustainability agenda.

Until February 2011 he was a member of the Association of British Insurers Customer Impact Committee charged with trying to get the Consumer more central to the strategies of the Life Insurance sector.

He was a Food Standards Agency Board Member, Chair of FSA Audit Committee and Chair of the FSA’s Better Regulation Advisory Group for six years until 2011.

He was a Board member of the Seafish Industry Authority resigning in 2012 due to the time commitment involved in the LEP role but continues as Chair of Seafood Cornwall.
