On this page there is some information about this event and at the bottom a poster with a download link so you can display it where you want. There is also a link to the entry form to download.

    SOME INFORMATION:
Would you like to be among the first members of the public to go along the route of the new A30 dual carriageway between Bodmin and Indian Queens and raise money for your favourite charities at the same time?

Local voluntary organisations - the Lions. Round Table and Rotary Clubs - have joined forces with the Highways Agency and its contractors, Alfred McAlpine, to organise GO GOSS – a celebration sponsored walk or cycle along the length of the new road.

The event will take place on Sunday 1 April and minimum charitable donations for entry will be split between the Children’s Hospice South West, the Cornwall Air Ambulance and the Lighthouse Club which cares for bereaved families of roadworkers involved in accidents.

In addition to the entry donation, participants are encouraged to raise extra money for their causes, own favourite charities or local beneficiaries.

Three walking distances are available – 7km, 13km or 20km – and one cycling distance of 13km.

Highways Agency project leader, Andrew Alcorn, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this unique opportunity for the people to Cornwall to celebrate the construction of this new dual carriageway which forms such a vital link for the county.

“We hope as many people as possible will take part in GO GOSS and make it a memorable occasion for everyone as well as raising money for some very good causes.”

Graham Hickman, District Governor of 39 Rotary Clubs, speaking on behalf of the organisers, said: “GOGOSS will be an excellent day out for all members of the family.

“All the organisations taking part wanted to celebrate the completion of the new road with an imaginative and exciting event and raise money for the three primary charities and other local beneficiaries. I am expecting all my Rotary Clubs to encourage huge public participation and business sponsorships”

Entry forms for the event will be available from public libraries or for downloading at www.itsmymarket.com/gogoss

Entry donations are £10 per person or £5 (under-18 or over 60 years), £20 for a family of six including two adults and £20 per school or club of six under-18s accompanied by an adult.

Entrants will receive an information pack including an entry number, sponsor form, site map, parking details and full rules of the event.

Work on the long-awaited £93 million A30 Bodmin to Indian Queens road at Goss Moor will began in July 2005 and is on course to be opened for the peak summer holiday period.
The existing road has been a notorious bottleneck on the main route through Cornwall for many years and has been subject to a number of accidents

involving high vehicles colliding with a railway bridge - causing inconvenience and delays to road users and railway passengers on the Newquay to Par line.

The new road is also seen as a major environmental gain because it will be built away from Goss Moor and Tregoss Moor, both designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest, National Nature Reserves and Special Areas of Conservation. The current A30 severs habitat of the rare marsh fritillary butterfly leading to a limit on numbers. The existing A30 will be downgraded into a route that will allow greatly improved pedestrian, cyclist and equestrian access, as well as a significant reduction in the habitat severance for the marsh fritillary.
