20,000 missions flown
12 December 2008
On Wednesday 22nd October 2008, during the afternoon, the Cornwall Air Ambulance helicopter was tasked for the 20,000th time, since it began flying 21 years ago.

This was a very significant milestone for our single hardworking air ambulance, which on its 20,000th flight air lifted a male patient from the Launceston area to Derriford Hospital.

Paramedics Mark Fuszard and Mick McLachlan, both members of the team of six full time Cornwall air ambulance crew, together with senior pilot Pete McLellend, were on duty at the time of the incident.

The charity office has received many messages of goodwill from the public and other emergency services, following the significant publicity on TV and in local media.

As you can see from our mission counter, which we try to update as often as possible, the helicopter is already flying towards the next 20,000 flights, and everyday is needed by someone, somewhere in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly.

This new website, together with our newsletters and magazines, will feature stories told by you and we are appealing to anyone who has been airlifted to hospital by the Cornwall Air Ambulance Helicopter, to get in touch, especially if you think your story could help explain why this service is so special and needs the continued support of everyone.
