Around 100 people took part in a charity quiz night on Saturday 19th March, raising over £400 for Cornwall Air Ambulance. The event was organised at Camelford Bowling Club, following a serious accident last November. Club member and farmer Geoffrey Risdon fell 15 feet onto the concrete floor of the dairy parlour during milking time on his farm, fracturing his skull, breaking a bone at the top of his neck, and suffering serious cuts. His son called 999, and because of the severity of his injuries it was decided it would be safer and quicker to transport Geoffrey to hospital by air ambulance.
Geoffrey was in hospital for over 4 weeks, and is still recovering steadily, even getting back to bowling with his friends in Camelford. During his stay in hospital he got really interested in TV quiz shows, and he decided to put together a charity quiz night and devise all the questions!
Paula Martin from Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust attended the quiz evening to collect a donation of £430 and to thank Geoffrey for organising the fundraiser. Paula said “Each year Cornwall Air Ambulance attends several accidents which have happened down on the farm. Occasionally farm workers suffer serious trauma injuries arising from accidents involving livestock or machinery. This was one of the most serious incidents attended by the Cornwall air ambulance in 2010, and we are really pleased to hear that Geoffrey is making such good progress recovering from his fall”. It is hoped that Geoffrey and his family will soon visit the helicopter base and meet the paramedics.
